Oh for ’Shael’s sweet sake, girl, you think you can rule an empire without lying? You think your father didn’t lie? Or his father? Or any of your goldy-eyed great-great-founders of Annur? It’s built into the job. Bakers have flour, fishermen have nets, and leaders have lies. Brian Staveley
About This Quote

When the Aztecs were trying to conquer the people of Mexico, they used a variety of tactics to gain power. One of these tactics was to create a legend about their god. According to the legend, an Aztec god named Quetzalcoatl had given man permission to live on earth. The Aztecs believed that if they could get hold of the sacred disc that was believed to have fallen from heaven, they would be able to make themselves gods.

They believed that Quetzalcoatl would be pleased by their efforts. When the Spanish arrived in Mexico, they unearthed this story and spread it throughout the country. The legend was used as a justification for all of the atrocities committed by the Aztecs.
